Grow Your List Series #3: Unlocking Success: Identify Your Ideal Customer
Knowing your ideal customer is the cornerstone of effective marketing.
By now, you're starting to see that the path to growing your list and increasing your conversions isn't just about what you do - it's about doing the right things with intention, focus, and strategy. So far, we've mapped out the essential steps to success (Episode 1) and discussed the biggest mistake that could be holding you back (Episode 2). Today, we're diving into one of the most critical elements of your business: identifying your ideal customer.
Why Identifying Your Ideal Customer is Crucial
Picture this: You’re trying to sell a life jacket, but your audience is made up of desert dwellers. Or worse, you put a great deal of time and energy into selling life jackets to EVERYONE because it could save their lives....BUT, the audience you're reaching is Olympic swimmers who spend most of their time training in a pool.
No matter how great your life jacket is, it simply won’t resonate. The same goes for your business. You could have the best product or service in the world, but if it’s not in front of the right people, you’ll struggle to connect with prospects and fail to see your desired sales.

Understanding your ideal customer—who they are, what they need, and where they spend their time—is the foundation of all your marketing efforts. It shapes your messaging, influences your offers, and determines where you invest your time and resources. In short, knowing your ideal customer is the key to unlocking consistent and scalable growth.
Often when I ask a coaching client about who they think can benefit the most from their program, course, or coaching, I get a response such as, "well, everyone!"
Here's the problem...
If you try to sell to EVERYONE, how can you zero in on your messaging in a way that CONNECTS with ANYONE?
That doesn't mean you can't sell to everyone. It just means that we get more refined in WHO we are focusing our marketing efforts and messaging to attract and convert.
Who is Your Ideal Customer?
Your ideal customer is more than just a demographic. It’s a detailed picture of the person who would benefit most from your product or service and who values what you have to offer. They’re the people who will engage with your content, share your message, and ultimately become loyal advocates of your brand.
